30 years of experience in clinical research, his main areas of research being in the physiology and pathophysiology of energy metabolism, with an emphasis on the treatment of obesity.

 

Past President of the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) and founding editor of Obesity Reviews, he is also editor-in-chief of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and a member of the editorial board of the Annual Review of Nutrition.

 

He is author/co-author of more than 600 original scientific articles, reviews and editorials and more than 1000 other academic publications such as abstracts, school chapters and scientific correspondence.

 

Since 2020, Prof. Astrup has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Head of a new “Obesity and Nutritional Sciences” department of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
