Presentation

Engaged since 2018 in clinical and basic research, the RNPC network has since been the instigator of large-scale scientific events, bringing together leading experts in their field to provide answers to this major public health issue.

Each edition has the mission to alert the health professionals on the extent of the problem and therefore the emergency of the situation, to reveal the mechanistic links that explain the dangerousness of a high waist circumference and to encourage multidisciplinary management in which overweight would be of paramount importance.

The 2nd RNPC multidisciplinary congress: “Overweight, all concerned: from researcher to clinician”.

On October 2, 2021, more than 500 physicians and experts of overweight/obesity gathered at the Palais du Pharo to attend the second edition of the RNPC conferences, with a programme offering new sessions, always animated by the greatest experts in the field.

Topic addressed: the importance of weight loss in the first therapeutic intention, especially fat mass.

Indeed, all the results of the studies presented are unanimous: only a targeted weight loss of about ten kilos on average can lead to the remission of chronic and/or serious pathologies such as atrial fibrillation, diabetes, sleep apnea syndrome or NASH.

Another key concept that has been addressed by all these specialists is the accumulation of ectopic fat in organs such as the heart, liver, pancreas, kidney… pathophysiological mechanism still too little mentioned in the scientific literature while it is responsible, as well as adipocytic secretions, for most of the complications of overweight/obesity that physicians encounter in their daily practice.

The best moments of the RNPC Congress 2021

3rd RNPC congress: “Ectopic fat, the invisible health hazard: New therapeutic target”

The latest editions have therefore focused on complex pathophysiological mechanisms: Ectopic foci of fat that surround and infiltrate organs, thereby impairing their functioning, and adipocyte secretions that can be released from adipose tissue into the systemic circulation as well as locally at the level of these ectopic foci.

The 3rd edition of the RNPC congresses is in line with the previous ones, going back to certain key elements of the first and second RNPC congresses to deepen them and better exploit the conclusions, and presenting the results of new research which will undoubtedly enrich scientific knowledge during the years 2022 and 2023. The program promises to be just as remarkable as the previous times, with the presence already confirmed of speakers of national and international renown and the announcement of a large-scale clinical study which will be carried out within the RNPC network, and which will considerably improve the care pathway for patients suffering from overweight-associated comorbidities.
